Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ)

CPJ promotes press freedom worldwide and defends the right of
journalists to report the news without fear of reprisal. CPJ ensures
the free flow of news and commentary by taking action wherever
journalists are attacked, imprisoned, killed, kidnapped, threatened, censored, or harassed.

When journalists can't speak, we speak up.

Community Technology Network

Community Technology Network (CTN) works to bridge the digital divide through programs that support and enhance digital literacy in the Bay Area’s most vulnerable neighborhoods.

CTN initiates and manages partnerships with organizations that have computer centers to equip low-income San Francisco Bay Area residents with the technological tools and resources they need to explore educational, professional and social opportunities in and beyond their communities.

Digital Divide Data

DDD delivers digital content, data and research solutions to clients worldwide. Customers receive high-quality competitively priced digital content services. Front Row Education

Front Row makes a free adaptive math program for K-8 teachers and students. The program helps students practice math at their own pace, and helps their teachers know exactly what each student is struggling with.

In just a year and a half since launching, Front Row is used in over 10% of American schools, and has produced dramatic gains in student learning & achievement.

Inveneo is a 501c3 nonprofit social enterprise, which means that we operate like a business with a social mission. We aim to get the tools of information communications technology (ICT), such as computers, telephony, and Internet access to those who need it most — people and organizations in rural and highly underserved communities of the developing world.

LegWorks

LegWorks is a for-profit social enterprise: our mission is to help people walk again. Our first product we are a bringing to market is the All-Terrain Knee (AT-Knee), a breakthrough artificial knee joint technology for lower limb amputees. The AT-Knee uses an innovative design that delivers a high level of function, at an affordable price. Its patented technology is a game changer in the developing world and is high performance enough for LegWorks to sell to customers in high-income markets.

Meedan

Meedan is a social technology company with offices in SF and Cairo working to develop tools for cross-language collaboration online. Since 2005 we have worked with world class partners including IBM, the University of Cambridge, QFI, Kiva, USIP, UNDP, UNESCO, The Economist, the Guardian, and Al Jazeera on projects encompassing open education, social translation, and social media journalism.

Muso

Muso’s mission is to eliminate preventable deaths in the world’s most vulnerable communities. Working with the Malian Ministry of Health, we have created an Ultra-Rapid Health System, optimized to save lives by reaching patients early. Building on the results of a recent study documenting a tenfold difference in child mortality rates in Muso’s area of intervention, we have an unprecedented opportunity to adapt and scale a global model for saving millions of lives.

PERTS

PERTS (Project for Education Research that Scales) is an applied research center at Stanford University. We work with leading experts on academic motivation to raise student achievement on a large scale by developing evidence-based online programs and tools that are designed to shift how students think about school and their own abilities. In the process, we conduct research that enables us to improve our programs and to expand what is known about academic motivation.

RE-volv raises money through crowdfunding to finance community-based solar energy projects through the Solar Seed Fund—a revolving fund for solar energy. RE-volv raises awareness about solar energy through its community-based solar projects and outreach programs.

Teach With Africa

Teach With Africa is a non-profit organization empowering students and teachers by bringing educators to Africa -- and African educators to the U.S. -- in a reciprocal exchange of teaching and learning, so that the children we serve can have access to quality education in order to transform their lives, their communities, and their future. TWA supports academic programs, educational leadership initiatives, and community development training by placing experienced educators in under-served schools and community centers.
